1. Steel Plate Cutting

Steel plate cutting is a very common type of processing services in a metal fabricator. While sawing is the oldest method of cutting, modern methods are always related to computer numerical computer as we call CNC cutting steel plate. We usually cut the steel plate or other steel metals in the following methods:
  • 1.1 Flame Cutting
  • 1.2 Laser Cutting
  • 1.3 Plasma Cutting

1.1 Flame Cutting

Flame cutting
Specifications We Can flame cutting?
Flame Cutting, also known as Oxy Acetylene Cutting, Oxy Fuel Gas Cutting, Oxygen Burning, Steel Burning, is a method of cutting ferrous metals in which the metal is heated by a torch of 800°C and oxidized by a stream of oxygen from the torch. With the combination of fuel-gas and oxygen, flame cutting is commonly used for both steel cutting and edge preparation of a range of steel plate.
AHL Steel, as professional flame cutting manufacturer, we have full range of carbon and mild steels of popular thickness in stock, we can also process metals in following specifications:
Cutting thickness Up to 100 inches
Cutting area 22m x 5m
Cutting bed area   42 x 5m
Profiling tolerance  +/-2.0mm to +/-6.0mm(depending on thickness and length)

Metals We Can Flame Cut

Material Grade / Specification Minimum (mm) Maximum (mm)
S275 JR (43A) 1.0044 6 2700
S355 JR (50B) 1.0045 6 2700
S355 J2G3 (50D) 1.0570 6 2700

Corten Steel Plate 6 180

1.2 Laser Cutting

Laser cutting

The Laser cutting process

Laser cutting is a precise technology of using a laser to slice materials. By directing the output of a high-power laser through optics., the laser beam pierces the materials with a hole, and the focused laser beam is continued along from there. After then, either melts, burns, vaporizes away, or is blown away by a jet of gas, leaving an edge with a high-quality surface finish. In other words, laser cutting is more like melting than cutting.

Laser cutting is a highly accurate process that needs high level of control techniques, thanks to this, the tolerance of laser cutting could be reduced at the greatest extent. Depending on thickness and length, the profiling tolerance of laser cutting is +/-0.12mm to +/-0.75mm.

What materials can be laser cut?
  • Stainless Steel
  • Carbon / Mild Steels
  • Titanium
  • Copper, Brass and Bronze
  • Aluminum and Alloys
Materials Maximum Cutting Size: Maximum Material Thickness: Minimum Material Thickness:
Stainless Steel Plate 4mx2m 25mm 0.25mm
Carbon Steel Plate 4mx2m 20mm 0.25mm
Alloy Steel Plate 4mx2m 15mm 0.4mm

1.3 Plasma Cutting

What is Plasma Cutting?

Plasma cutting is a process that cuts through electrically conductive materials by means of an accelerated jet of hot plasma. The materials that can be plasma cutting are similar to laser cutting, including: steels, cast iron, aluminum, stainless steels, copper and titanium.

Disadvantage of Plasma Cutting

However, plasma cutting cannot cut materials as thick as those that cut by flame cutting. Generally, plasma cutting is not a great choice for materials of small thickness.

Profile Bending

3. Steel & Metal Puching

steel punching

What is punching?

Steel Punching is a very effective process for putting holes or slots in various types of metals. Using uniquely shaped turrets on the punch press hit the metal through or into a die to create holes, shearing out the hole or slot and creating a slug. The final product can be a piece of metal with holes for fastening purposes, usually steel plate with holes. Most punch presses are mechanical but small or simple punches can also be done by hand-power.

We use a hydraulic cylinder press to push a punch into the metal, which “tears” the material in the shape of the die. Our metal processing punch press applies up to 180 tons of pressure, giving us the ability to hole punch through steel plate up to 1” thick. The majority of our punches and dies are for round holes and are primarily used when making basic steel punching.

4. Welding

Welding makes two or more pieces of metal joined together, by the combination of heat and pressure. In this way, the metal can be any shape or size. There are four types of welding procedures we commonly use:

  • Arc Welding
  • MIG Welding
  • TIG Welding
  • Flux Cored Arc Welding

Our fabrication facility provides our customers with a great source for the fabrication of light and heavy structural steel and steel components. We can weld all types of steel and fabricate many different kinds of metal products for customers in diverse industries.

Weldability of steel Metal

The weldability of steel grades mostly depends on how hard it is. In other words, it depends on the material’s chemical composition, especially its carbon content. Other alloying elements that have less effect on the hardness of steel include manganese, molybdenum, chromium, vanadium, nickel and silicon.

List of steel that we can weld

  • Carbon Steel
  • Alloy Steel
  • Nickel Steel
  • Stainless Steel
  • Tool Steel
